Default Judge Doesn't Allow Ja Rule to Post Co-Defendants' Bail - February 28th, 2008

State Supreme Court Justice Micki Scherner is worried that Ja Rule as posted thousands of dollars in bonds for two co-defendants in the rapper's gun possession case.
Judge Scherner expressed her concern on Wednesday (Feb. 27) at the indictment arraignment of Ja Rule, Dennis Cherry and Mohamed Gamal on gun possession charges. According to the Associated Press, all plead not guilty.
The judge said Ja "has put himself in the position of perhaps controlling the outcome of the case. I think the potential for it is a big problem."
Ja Rule's bail is $150,000 bond or cash; Cherry's bail is $150,000 bond or $75,000 cash, and Gamal's bail is $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. Cherry is Ja's road manager, and Gamal is Ja's driver.
All the bonds are secured by the rapper's $3.5 million house in Saddle River, N.J. His lawyer, Stacey Richman, stated that the co-defendants would come up with separate bail packages.
Ja Rule, Cherry and Gamal were stopped for speeding in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] around 10:30 p.m. on July 22, 2007. Police reports stated that a computer check of their car, a 2004 Maybach, revealed it had no insurance and suspended registration.
Police also said they "detercted a strong odor of marijuana," though no one was charged with possession of it. What police did find, however, was a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun in the rear driver's side door.
